I like ruanas because they are so easy to wear. Ruanas are common in South America, but are more seldom seen here. Ruanas incorporate design features of the Andean poncho and the Mexican rebozo. With the cape-like back and open front, they are easier to wear than a straight shawl, with the front ends thrown over the shoulders, worn straight down the front and fastened with a brooch, or any other way that is comfortable. The cotton, silk, alpaca or wool ruanas are soft and washable and can be either casual or elegant.
